5-spice is an aromatic blend of ground cinnamon, star anise, cloves and ginger. It's fantastic on tofu.

Ingredients
- 1 pound high-protein tofu, cut into 1/2-inch slices
- 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon 5-spice powder
- Pinch cayenne
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 pounds broccoli, cut into 1-inch florets
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- 1 1/2 teaspoons unseasoned rice wine vinegar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dark (Asian) sesame oil
- Pinch red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Preheat the broiler. In a large bowl toss together the tofu, sugar, soy sauce, ginger, 5-spice and salt until well mixed. Spread on a small foil-lined baking sheet and broil until lightly browned about 3 minutes. Turn and brown on the other side, another 2 minutes.
- Meanwhile, make the broccoli salad; bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and add the florets. Cook 1 minute and drain. Transfer to a bowl and add the remaining ingredients and stir well. Let cool and serve warm or chill until serving time.

- I actually refrigerated this dish overnight to use as lunches. I used a bit too much ginger powder in my dish. But I was pleasantly surprised at how tastey it came out.

- Great flavor combination. Was best served just after making. Didn't like near as much after it had cooled.
