Flank steak is one of the most flavorful cuts you can buy. If you prefer a slightly more tender cut, however, you can substitute a pound of trimmed top sirloin or tenderloin fillets without affecting the K count.

- Total Time: 25 minutes
- Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt or sea salt, divided
- 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, divided
- 1 pound flank steak, trimmed
- cooking spray
- 3 slices Canadian bacon, chopped
- 1 medium red onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 2 tablespoons water
- 3 cups great Northern beans, rinsed and drained, if canned
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon unsulphured molasses
- 2 teaspoons apple-cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Instructions
- Preheat a grill to high or prepare a hot fire. Rub 1 teaspoon of the salt and 1/2 teaspoon of the pepper onto both sides of the steak and set aside at room temperature.
- Meanwhile, spray a large saucepan with the nonstick cooking spray and warm over medium-high heat. Add the bacon, onion, garlic, and water and cook, stirring frequently, until the onions have softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the beans, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, vinegar, Worcestershire, mustard and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, about 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, grill the steak about 3 minutes per side for medium-rare, 4 minutes for medium or 5 minutes for well-done. Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for 5 minutes, then thinly slice against the grain.
- Serve the steak accompanied by the beans.

- The steak is wonderful. Wasn't a big fan of the beans, but my husband really liked them and requested I make the meal again.

- This is a great recipe! The beans are really good! You have to cook them longer than it says, but its well worth it!
